Octave Studies by Kathy Lovas is a new series of colorful silkscreen prints, in which the artist examines ideas of indexicality, the archive, and the frame through personal narratives. Printed on a variety of overlapping surfaces, including cardboard, vintage sheet music, and linen fabrics, the works are pinned to the wall like specimens. Images of the artist’s mother and a special dining room chair float through the series as fragments of an ongoing story. Kathy states, “I create visual archives whose elements both help me to remember and allow me to forget.”
